## Description

When Texaco drilled the Amazon in the 1970s, it lengthened Coca's runway with a crude-and-ballast mix that hardened into a near-paved surface – and Francisco de Orellana Airport (OCC) has served Ecuador's oil frontier ever since. Today the civil-aviation authority rates it a Type B field, handling both passengers and freight on a runway of roughly 2,060 metres. Scheduled service runs only to Quito, flown by LATAM, Aeroregional and Euroairlines. Cargo here is overwhelmingly oilfield supply – tools, spares and provisions for the camps along the Río Napo. Genuine export consignments still move through Quito's Tababela complex, to which Coca feeds. River barges on the Napo and the regional road network round out its reach into the rainforest.
