## Description

Texaco lengthened Coca's runway during the 1970s Amazon oil boom with a ballast-and-crude mix that hardened into a near-paved surface, and Francisco de Orellana Airport (IATA: OCC, ICAO: SECO) has served Ecuador's oil frontier ever since. Today the civil aviation authority rates it a national Type B station, cleared for both passengers and freight, with an asphalt runway of 2,060 by 27 metres at about 254 metres above sea level. Scheduled service runs to Quito only, flown by LATAM, Aeroregional and Euroairlines; there are no international routes and no freighter operations. Cargo is overwhelmingly oilfield supply - tools, spares, drilling consumables and provisions for the camps along the Río Napo, usually combined with river and road legs out of Coca. Export consignments requiring customs clearance are handled at Quito-Mariscal Sucre (UIO) in Tababela, with Guayaquil (GYE) used for flowers and other perishables and Lago Agrio (LGQ) as the nearest alternative Amazon field. The road to Quito via Loreto and Baeza takes seven to nine hours and closes intermittently after landslides.
