## Description

Scheduled traffic moved out 35 kilometres years ago: since 2 April 2014 Juiz de Fora's airline flights have used the newer Presidente Itamar Franco Airport (IZA) in the Zona da Mata, leaving the in-town Francisco Álvares de Assis Airport (IATA: JDF, ICAO: SBJF), known locally as Aeroporto da Serrinha, to general aviation alone. In 2025 the field recorded 16,850 passengers across 15,230 aircraft movements and precisely zero tonnes of cargo. The city of Juiz de Fora in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais runs the airport; Infraero confirmed in March 2025 that nothing technical or operational blocks a return of scheduled service, but Azul and Gol did not respond and LATAM said only that it keeps reviewing opportunities. There is no cargo terminal, no customs post and no freighter activity, so for forwarders JDF is a destination for business and air-ambulance flights only. Regional air freight moves through Rio de Janeiro-Galeão (GIG) about 180 road kilometres to the south-east, or Belo Horizonte-Confins (CNF), the customs-equipped cargo gateway of Minas Gerais some 290 kilometres to the north-west. For consolidated and general cargo from the region's textile and metalworking firms, the BR-040 motorway to Rio and Belo Horizonte remains the working route.
