## Description

Perched at roughly 3,363 metres in the Mantaro valley, Francisco Carle Airport (IATA: JAU, ICAO: SPJJ) is the only commercial airport in Peru's Junín region. State operator CORPAC S.A. runs a single asphalt runway of 2,870 by 45 metres and a modest single-storey terminal of about 220 square metres. LATAM Perú and Sky Airline serve Lima-Jorge Chávez on scheduled flights, alongside charter and corporate traffic; there are no international services. The field has no dedicated freight handling: potatoes, artichokes, dairy output and mining supplies move to the capital by the Carretera Central highway and the Ferrocarril Central Andino railway, some 200 road kilometres away. Shipments needing customs clearance, dangerous goods handling or a cold chain are consolidated at Lima-Jorge Chávez (LIM), which gained a new terminal and second runway in 2025. Altitude compounds the limits, since even turboprops lose noticeable take-off performance above 3,300 metres, making charter freight expensive. Huancayo, the region's largest city, lies about 47 kilometres and roughly an hour's drive to the south-east.
