## Description

Furniture, ceramics and white goods pour out of Foshan's factories, yet none of it leaves by air from Foshan Shadi (IATA: FUO, ICAO: ZGFS): official statistics record zero tonnes of cargo throughput for 2025. The dual-use airfield in Nanhai District is a passenger facility — China United Airlines opened a new terminal in December 2024 and, as of August 2026, is the only carrier there, with about 126 weekly arrivals from 14 airports, all of them domestic; Beijing Daxing, Zhoushan and Hangzhou are the busiest routes. With no international service, there is no cargo terminal, no handling agent and no air-cargo customs office. Forwarders therefore truck shipments roughly an hour down the expressway to Guangzhou Baiyun (CAN) or Shenzhen Bao'an (SZX), the Pearl River Delta's main cargo airports. Change is under way: construction of the Pearl River Delta Hub Airport in Foshan's Gaoming District started on 25 March 2026, designed for 30 million passengers by 2030 and 300,000 tonnes of cargo a year by 2035. Until it opens, FUO is an origin point for trucking rather than for airfreight.
