## Description

About 1'150 km north of Buenos Aires, on the Paraguay River in the Gran Chaco, Formosa National Airport (IATA: FMA, ICAO: SARF), locally known as El Pucú, serves as a provincial gateway roughly seven kilometres south of the city. Aerolíneas Argentinas is the only carrier serving it, operating around fourteen weekly rotations to the capital as of 2025; despite its formal "international" designation, no scheduled cross-border services operate. There is no dedicated freight terminal, so air cargo travels solely as belly freight on those passenger flights. Heavier goods from this farming region — cotton, cattle and timber — move by road or via the Paraguay-Paraná waterway, and onward to the national cargo gateway at Buenos Aires-Ezeiza (EZE). Resistencia (RES), a good 160 road kilometres to the south-west, is the nearest practical alternative. For forwarders, FMA remains a regional feeder with very limited air-freight capacity.
