## Description

Pulliam Field opened in 1948 and is named after Clarence T. Pulliam, a long-serving Flagstaff city manager; despite entries to the contrary, its official name carries no "International" suffix and it has no permanent customs post. American Eagle links Flagstaff with Phoenix (PHX), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) and seasonally Los Angeles (LAX), and since 21 May 2026 American has flown the DFW rotation with an Airbus A319 — the first mainline jet in scheduled service to the field. At 7,014 feet (2,138 m) it ranks among the highest commercial airports in the United States, and summer density altitude cuts into every payload. The cargo story is quickly told: there is no cargo terminal, no freighter traffic, and only marginal belly volumes. Instead BNSF's Southern Transcon mainline thunders straight through town with dozens of freight trains a day, while Interstate 40 handles east-west road traffic and Interstate 17 runs south. Air freight for northern Arizona is therefore routed via Phoenix Sky Harbor (PHX), some 230 road kilometres away and roughly two hours by truck.
