## Description

A quiet airfield next to one of the region's busiest land borders: that contrast defines Ficksburg in South Africa's Free State. Sentraoes Airport (FCB/FAFB), at about 1,620 metres above sea level, is a small regional field with no cargo terminal, no handling agent and no air-freight customs post, and the altitude further limits usable take-off performance. The town's real logistics artery is the road, because the Ficksburg Bridge crossing to Maputsoe is among the busiest border posts between South Africa and Lesotho and carries the bulk of Lesotho's garment and textile exports. That same crossing is one of six border posts South Africa plans to rebuild as smart one-stop facilities under a programme worth around 12.5 billion rand, with construction announced for late 2026 or early 2027 and roughly two years of works.
