## Description

Faro owes its existence to one of the world's largest open-pit lead-zinc mines, which drew workers to this corner of the Yukon until operations wound down in 1998, leaving roughly 70 million tonnes of tailings and 320 million tonnes of waste rock across a 25-square-kilometre site. The community is small today, and Faro Airport (ZFA/CZFA) handles charter, resupply and bush flying rather than scheduled cargo — there is no freight terminal and no resident handling agent. What generates transport demand is the federally funded remediation of the mine site, on the traditional territory of the Kaska Nations, planned over some 15 years of active work plus a decade of monitoring; the associated materials and equipment move by road, not through the airstrip.
