## Description

Unlike Tajikistan's civil airports, Farkhor is a purely military airfield with no commercial role. It is best known as India's first and only overseas military base, used from the late 1990s near Parkhar — about 130 km southeast of Dushanbe and just 2 km from the Afghan border — to support the Afghan Northern Alliance. The Indian Air Force operates it together with the Tajik Air Force, and its roughly 3,200 m runway can take transport and combat aircraft. There is no civil cargo terminal or scheduled service here. For air-freight needs, shippers use Dushanbe International Airport (DYU), the country's only cargo facility, where Tajik customs clearance also takes place.
