## Description

Air New Zealand, Fiji Airways, Samoa Airways and the regional carrier Talofa Airways anchor scheduled service at Faleolo (APW/NSFA), the principal international gateway of Samoa, about 40 kilometres west of the capital Apia. The airport concentrates virtually all of the country's overseas air traffic, with mainline links to Auckland and Nadi and onward connections toward Honolulu and Los Angeles. There is no dedicated freighter operation here: air cargo moves in the bellies of passenger aircraft, while Talofa Airways adds regional freight runs to Pago Pago and Tongatapu. The rebuilt terminal is one of the few in the Pacific islands equipped with airbridges, and the Samoan aviation authority has announced a reworking of the cargo storage area including added cool storage for pharmaceuticals, with no confirmed completion date. For forwarders the honest picture is that time-sensitive and lightweight consignments travel by air, whereas heavy or bulky goods reach Samoa by sea through the port of Apia some 40 kilometres east. Customs and strict biosecurity controls rest with the Samoan authorities, particularly for agricultural and food imports; the nearest larger cargo alternatives are Nadi (NAN) in Fiji and Auckland (AKL).
