## Description

About 200 kilometres south of the Arctic Circle, Fairbanks International Airport (IATA: FAI, ICAO: PAFA) is the northernmost international airport in the United States and Alaska's second-busiest. Freight is its backbone: Alaska Air Cargo, FedEx, Northern Air Cargo and hometown carrier Everts Air Cargo — which keeps its maintenance base here and, as of 2025, remains the last US airline flying scheduled DC-6 propliners — link Fairbanks with Anchorage and dozens of Interior bush villages supplied through the state's Bypass Mail system. The airport also works as a diversion and fuel stop for transpacific traffic. Alaska Airlines leads passenger service, joined by seasonal nonstops from the Lower 48 and, in summer, occasional direct flights from Germany on Condor, while aurora tourism keeps winter loads healthy. The Alaska Railroad and the Interior's main highways terminate in town, and operations continue reliably at temperatures below minus 40. For forwarders, FAI is the pivotal transfer point between the Lower-48 network and air resupply across Alaska's far north.
