## Description

USD 65 million is the price tag on the terminal complex being built alongside Exuma International Airport (IATA: GGT, ICAO: MYEF) on Great Exuma, The Bahamas, a scheme with a 60,000 sq ft terminal, new fire station, resurfaced runway and an extra taxiway that is meant to make the field the traffic focus of the southern Bahamas. For now the airport, some 15 road kilometres north-west of George Town, is a tourism-driven passenger station served by American Airlines, Delta and Bahamasair, plus busy charter and private-jet movements to the Exuma Cays. There is no dedicated cargo terminal and no freighter operation: air freight travels as belly cargo, capped by whatever space the day's aircraft can spare. Customs and immigration are handled on site, but Bahamian US preclearance exists only at Nassau and Freeport, so US-bound consignments from GGT clear on arrival in the States. Consolidated, heavy or dangerous-goods shipments route through Lynden Pindling International in Nassau (NAS) or by sea, with Miami International (MIA) the usual upstream gateway. For forwarders, Exuma is a feeder for light, time-critical goods — spare parts, documents, medical supplies, resort resupply — not a cargo location in its own right.
