## Description

Toledo Express lost its freight identity in 2011 when the BAX Global hub closed, and won it back a decade later: Amazon Air has flown daily Boeing 737-800 freighters into Eugene F. Kranz Toledo Express Airport (TOL/KTOL) since 2021, sorting in a 65,000-square-foot building on the old BAX site with Pinnacle Logistics as ground handler. Throughput reached about 116,000 tonnes (255 million pounds) in 2022, up a third year on year and the airport's best result to date, ranking it 92nd among US airports by freight volume. The field is run by the Toledo-Lucas County Port Authority; runway 7/25 measures roughly 3,200 metres and an 80-acre freighter apron is sized for aircraft up to the Boeing 747. The Ohio Air National Guard's 180th Fighter Wing flies F-16Cs from the same field, while passenger service is point-to-point and led by Allegiant. The airport was renamed in 2020 after Toledo-born Apollo flight director Gene Kranz. Shippers needing a broader choice of scheduled freighter capacity, dangerous goods or pharma handling turn to Detroit Metropolitan (DTW) about an hour north or Cleveland-Hopkins (CLE); regional surface freight moves through Toledo's Great Lakes port, the CSX and Norfolk Southern main lines and the I-75/Ohio Turnpike junction.
