## Description

1,146,346 passengers and 7,742 aircraft movements passed through Erzurum (IATA: ERZ, ICAO: LTCE) between January and November 2025, making it the principal air gateway of eastern Anatolia. Run by the Turkish state operator DHMİ at a good 1,750 metres above sea level, it ranks among the country's highest commercial airports and serves the Palandöken ski area, host of the 2011 Winter Universiade. Its main runway of roughly 3,800 metres is one of the longest in Turkey and lets heavy aircraft operate at that altitude. Turkish Airlines, AJet and Pegasus Airlines fly year-round to Istanbul and Ankara, joined by ski charters in winter. Despite the runway there is no dedicated cargo terminal and no scheduled freighter service; consignments travel as belly cargo, and DHMİ's combined freight, mail and baggage figure came to about 9,700 tonnes over the same eleven months. Air freight for the region is therefore cleared at Istanbul (IST) and trucked on, with Trabzon (TZX) some 300 km north-west offering a regional alternative that also has a seaport, and Gaziantep (GZT) covering flows towards the south-east.
