## Description

Avianca Cargo, the former Tampa Cargo, anchors the freight business at Ernesto Cortissoz (BAQ), the leading cargo airport of northern Colombia. Handling more than 100,000 tonnes a year, it sits in Soledad outside Barranquilla, the port city at the mouth of the Magdalena River on the Caribbean. That position ties air, river and sea transport together in one place. By passenger numbers BAQ ranks around fifth nationally, but its cargo weight is what matters to shippers. Perishables, industrial parts and consumer goods from the surrounding industry and the Barranquilla free-trade zone feed its export flows, much of it routed via Miami and Central America. Customs and handling run through Aerocivil, which took over direct operation of the airport in September 2024. Road links along the Caribbean coast plus the river-sea port make BAQ a multimodal reference point. For forwarders it is the natural air-freight gateway between Cartagena, Santa Marta and the Colombian interior.
