## Description

A 2,600 by 45 metre runway and a terminal designed for 1.5 million passengers and 2,500 tonnes of freight and mail a year define what Enshi Xujiaping International Airport (ENH/ZHES) in western Hubei can physically absorb — and 2024 came close to that ceiling, with 1,994 tonnes handled, a record for the airport and 98th place among China's commercial airports. The airport serves the Enshi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, a mountainous area with limited surface links, and has held formal international status since 7 March 2025. Freight moves as belly cargo and mail aboard passenger aircraft; the winter 2025/26 schedule lists seven airlines on roughly 17 routes with around 320 weekly flights, and no dedicated freighter operation is documented. On 30 August 2024 China's State Council and Central Military Commission approved a replacement airport for Enshi, targeting 3.5 million passengers and 10,000 tonnes of freight and mail by 2030. For time-critical or larger consignments from western Hubei, Wuhan Tianhe (WUH) and above all Ezhou Huahu (EHU), China's first purpose-built cargo hub, remain the relevant options, with Chongqing (CKG) and Yichang (YIH) as alternatives.
