## Description

KGHM Polska Miedź's Robinson copper-gold mine, about six kilometres west of Ely, ships its concentrate out by truck and rail — never by air. The county-owned Yelland Field (IATA: ELY, ICAO: KELY) is today a pure general-aviation field: its subsidised Essential Air Service was cut after Ely became the most expensive EAS point in the United States, at roughly USD 3,720 subsidy per passenger. The town still keeps the complete 1906 Nevada Northern Railway depot, built to haul this same copper and now a working steam museum. Along US-50, "the Loneliest Road in America," air freight has no customers; shippers drive about four hours to Salt Lake City (SLC) or Las Vegas (LAS).
