## Description

Opened in 1920, El Trompillo (IATA: SRZ, ICAO: SLET) was the only airfield in Santa Cruz de la Sierra for 65 years, until Viru Viru International took over all scheduled and freight traffic in 1984. The field sits inside the city, about two kilometres south of the centre, and today serves mainly the Bolivian Air Force, flight schools, business and general aviation, plus occasional domestic and charter movements; scheduled passenger service ended in September 2019. There is no cargo terminal, no air-freight customs post and no regular freighter activity. All of the region's import and export air cargo — soy products, beef, spare parts, pharmaceuticals — is handled at Viru Viru (VVI) some 15 kilometres to the north, which is also the base of Bolivia's cargo carriers. For forwarders, SRZ is therefore not a loading point but at most a convenient in-town field for business aviation; the working address in Santa Cruz is Viru Viru, with La Paz-El Alto (LPB) as the second Bolivian option.
