## Description

Crude oil, not air cargo, defines the economy around El Tajín (IATA: PAZ, ICAO: MMPA): the airport serves Poza Rica and Túxpam, a long-standing petroleum district in northern Veracruz, and is run by the federal operator Aeropuertos y Servicios Auxiliares (ASA). Named after the nearby Totonac archaeological site, it is a modest regional field that handled about 4,500 passengers in 2025, up from roughly 1,200 the year before. Regional carrier Aerus has flown from here to Reynosa, Veracruz, Villahermosa and Tampico since December 2023, adding San Luis Potosí and Felipe Ángeles (AIFA) near Mexico City in May 2025. The airport runs no scheduled freight operation: the small aircraft in use leave almost no belly capacity, and there is neither a cargo terminal nor an air-freight customs post. Heavier shipments move overland to Veracruz (VER), whose seaport handles the state's import and export traffic, while international air freight is normally routed through Mexico City (MEX/NLU).
