## Description

From low-cost showcase to military field in three years: El Palomar (EPA/SADP), 18 kilometres west of central Buenos Aires in the Morón district, handled Flybondi and JetSMART services between 2018 and 2020 as Argentina's first low-cost airport. Commercial operations were suspended indefinitely in December 2020, and civil aviation has been halted entirely since October 2021 after an environmental impact assessment was found to be missing. The field is now used by the Argentine Air Force, whose 1st Air Brigade is based here, and by the state carrier LADE. Despite the liberalisation of Argentine aviation, a return of commercial flights is considered unlikely, with high operating costs, absent ramp services, an unresolved court case and traffic volumes too thin to justify a third terminal in the same region all cited as obstacles. No cargo terminal or customs post for commercial consignments is documented at EPA. The metropolitan area's air freight is concentrated at Buenos Aires-Ezeiza (EZE), the national cargo gateway, with Aeroparque (AEP) covering domestic traffic, so forwarders plan Greater Buenos Aires shipments through EZE.
