## Description

Opened in 1952 and sitting just 6 km from Calama, El Loa Airport (CJC) was built to connect Chile with Chuquicamata, one of the world's largest copper mines. The Antofagasta Region's mining industry still defines its traffic: the cargo terminal handles minerals, spare parts and industrial equipment alongside belly freight on passenger services. A new passenger terminal opened in 2014 with three jet bridges and an expanded apron, but stands accept a maximum wingspan of 36 metres, limiting operations to narrow-bodies such as the A320 and 737.
