Officially Álvaro Rey Zúñiga and universally called El Caraño, Quibdó's airport (UIB/SKUI) works as the supply line for the road-poor Chocó rather than as a freight station, its roughly 1,800-metre asphalt runway restricting operations to narrow-body and turboprop aircraft. The field lies about two kilometres from the departmental capital and is run under a national infrastructure agency concession by Airplan. SATENA, EasyFly and other regional carriers link Quibdó mainly with Medellín and Bogotá, and cargo travels purely as belly load — typically food, fish, spare parts and consumer goods. There is no cargo terminal, no international customs post and no dangerous-goods handling here; exports and international consignments are cleared at José María Córdova near Medellín (MDE).
