## Description

Few medium airports have been repurposed as abruptly as El Arish. Since Egypt designated the field on 12 October 2023, AAC has functioned as the principal air bridgehead for humanitarian aid bound for the Gaza Strip, roughly 45 kilometres east. More than 500 relief aircraft had landed by February 2024, and Saudi Arabia's KSrelief alone counted over 70 flights by late 2025. Pallets of food, shelter kits and medical supplies are broken down on the apron and trucked onward through Rafah and Kerem Shalom, where convoys routinely back up by several thousand vehicles at the Ismailia checkpoint. Commercial scheduled freight, by contrast, barely touches AAC; ordinary forwarder cargo for Egypt routes through Cairo (CAI). The airport's dual civil-military status, and chartered-flight permits that average about four weeks, shape every cargo movement here.
