## Description

Around 60 flights a week, almost all of them on the single 200-kilometre hop to Bogotá, define El Alcaraván Airport (EYP/SKYP) in Yopal, the air access point for Colombia's oil-producing Casanare department. The runway was strengthened in the 1990s with funding from BP and Ecopetrol, and in 1997 an Antonov An-124 landed here with roughly 120 tonnes of drilling equipment. Avianca, LATAM and EasyFly are among the carriers on the Bogotá route today. The airport runs no scheduled freight service and has no cargo terminal of its own: commercial air cargo for Casanare is handled at Bogotá-El Dorado (BOG) and trucked in via Aguazul and Sogamoso, a road leg of roughly five to seven hours depending on weather and road condition. Customs clearance likewise happens in Bogotá, since EYP has no international customs post. Heavy and oversized oilfield equipment still arrives by charter directly at Yopal, while everything else follows the road from BOG.
