## Description

Built up for the oil industry, the runway at El Alcaraván Airport (EYP) in Yopal was upgraded in the 1990s so that an Antonov 124 could land — which it did in 1997, delivering 120 tonnes of drilling equipment for BP and Ecopetrol. Today EYP is the air gateway to oil-rich Casanare in the eastern plains, with Avianca, LATAM and EasyFly flying to Bogotá. There is no scheduled freight service; air cargo runs through Bogotá-El Dorado (BOG), barely 200 km away, while heavy oil gear still arrives by charter.
