## Description

Named after the desert battlefield of 1942, El Alamein (DBB/HEAL) today works as a seasonal leisure airport on Egypt's Mediterranean coast, with roughly 266,000 passengers expected in 2026 against about 170,000 a year earlier and no meaningful freight role. Traffic peaks from May to October, serving the North Coast resorts and the growing New Alamein City, then falls away sharply in winter. Air Cairo, flynas and a rotating set of summer charter operators carry Gulf and domestic holidaymakers. There is no dedicated cargo terminal; freight is confined to small belly loads on passenger flights, and commercial customs or dangerous-goods handling is not established here. An expansion programme aims to double capacity to around two million passengers a year by 2028, but it targets check-in, departures and baggage systems rather than cargo facilities. For air freight in the region, shippers use Borj El Arab in Alexandria (HBE) some 100 kilometres east, or Cairo International (CAI), Egypt's largest cargo station; the seaports of Alexandria and El Dekheila lie in the same direction.
