## Description

ASML, Philips and NXP — three of the most valuable names in global high-tech — sit on Eindhoven's doorstep, yet their air cargo never leaves from here. Eindhoven Airport (IATA: EIN, ICAO: EHEH) shares its single runway with Eindhoven Air Base, home to the Royal Netherlands Air and Space Force's Air Mobility Command, its C-130 transports and a G650, plus the A330 MRTT tankers of the multinational MMU unit. On the civilian side, around 7 million passengers a year (6.96 million in 2025) make Eindhoven the Netherlands' second-busiest airport after Schiphol, carried almost entirely by Ryanair, Transavia and Wizz Air. For air freight, however, the airport plays virtually no role: there is no commercial cargo terminal, no freighter service and no integrator station. The high-tech exports of the Brainport region rank among the world's most valuable air cargo, but they fly via Schiphol, Liège or Frankfurt, trucked from the factory gate. Forwarders serving the region therefore work through the RFS networks of the major hubs. The airport sits on the A2 motorway between Amsterdam and Maastricht, about 8 kilometres west of the city centre; there is no rail link on site, with buses covering the connection to the main station. Militarily the location matters all the more, with humanitarian and military transport missions of the Netherlands and its NATO partners regularly departing from Eindhoven, and the field will close entirely from 1 February to 19 July 2027 for a runway overhaul with a new low-visibility landing system and a fighter-jet arrestor system, with Transavia shifting operations to Maastricht and Weeze for the period.
