## Description

Plenty of runway, very little cargo infrastructure: Egal International Airport (HGA/HCMH) works a 3,700 m asphalt strip (06/24) at 1,363 m above sea level, yet handles freight almost entirely as belly cargo in passenger aircraft, with no dedicated cargo terminal or heavy loading equipment on record. Named after former president Muhammad Haji Ibrahim Egal, it is Somaliland's principal airport for both passengers and goods. Daallo Airlines serves Hargeisa year-round from Dubai and Jeddah alongside regional East African links, moving consumer goods, spare parts, pharmaceuticals and relief supplies, while the combination of altitude and heat trims payload for any freighter operation. Palletised and high-volume traffic is better routed via the port of Berbera some 160 km north-east, with its free zone, its own long-runway airport (BBO) and the Berbera Corridor road to Ethiopia, while Addis Ababa (ADD) serves as the wider regional fallback.
