## Description

Some 48,000 tonnes of cargo moved through Edmonton International Airport (YEG) in 2021, and the airport is betting heavily on multiplying that figure. Its 300 million dollar International Cargo Hub, backed by a 100 million dollar federal contribution, will convert roughly 2,000 acres into a dedicated freight operation south of the city. A new 47,000 m² cargo apron now holds six additional widebodies — four 747s or six 767s. Cargojet works the ramp daily, FedEx Boeing 777 charters and Volga-Dnepr freighters are regular visitors, and the facilities accommodate aircraft up to the B747-8F. Passenger service is regional in scale, but the airport's strategy is unmistakably cargo-led. The neighbouring Nisku Industrial Park feeds directly onto the CANAMEX corridor toward the United States and Mexico. Two intermodal rail yards connect the site to inland and marine container services. For forwarders, YEG is positioning itself as western Canada's cargo gateway with room to grow.
