## Description

The world's ground-handling industry has an address in Edinburgh: Menzies Aviation, founded in 1833 as a bookseller, keeps its headquarters in the Scottish capital. The city's airport (IATA: EDI, ICAO: EGPH) is Scotland's busiest and broke records in 2025 with 16,980,588 passengers — almost 17 million, a first for any Scottish airport — under majority ownership by VINCI Airports since 2024. Cargo means mail and express first: Royal Mail routes Scottish airmail through Edinburgh, complemented by bellyhold on long-haul services — Qatar Airways to Doha, United and Delta to the US East Coast, and from 2025 Hainan Airlines to Beijing. Air freight here is worth more than £500 million a year, carrying life-sciences, engineering and perishable goods. A dedicated cargo terminal west of the runway handles the volumes, and Scottish salmon flies partly direct from EDI, partly via road feeder to Heathrow. easyJet, Ryanair and Loganair dominate the passenger schedule. The site sits 12 kilometres west of the city centre on the A8, close to the M8 and M9, with a tram line into town since 2014.
