## Description

A former front-line airfield rather than a freight facility: Dzhida in the Dzhidinsky District of Buryatia was built in 1968, hosted Soviet and later Russian Su-24 bomber regiments for more than four decades, and has been out of service since 2011. There is no scheduled traffic, no cargo handling and no IATA code, and claims of cargo capability at this site are not supported by any source. Air freight for southern Buryatia is handled at Baikal International Airport in Ulan-Ude (UUD) roughly 200 kilometres to the northeast, with Irkutsk (IKT) across Lake Baikal taking larger consignments. The real transport axis here is rail: Dzhida sits on the Ulan-Ude–Naushki line, Naushki being the Russian border station for Mongolia, through which transit traffic runs towards Ulaanbaatar and China, complemented by the Kyakhta–Altanbulag road crossing. European shippers should also note that EU and Russian airspace have been mutually closed since 2022 and that consignments to Russia must be screened against sanctions and export-control lists beforehand.
