## Description

Dzhankoy was once known chiefly as a railway junction in northern Crimea — today the name stands for a contested military airfield. Since the annexation of the peninsula in 2014, Russian forces have used Dzhankoy Air Base, among other things, as a helicopter base; during Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine the site has repeatedly been targeted by Ukrainian strikes.
