## Description

More than 60,000 aircraft movements were counted at Hudson Valley Regional Airport (IATA: POU, ICAO: KPOU) in 2021, its busiest year in over five – yet not one of them was a scheduled passenger or cargo flight. The Dutchess County-owned field south of Poughkeepsie, known as Dutchess County Airport until it was renamed in 2016, serves business aviation, private flying and training; Dutchess Community College opened an education hangar here in 2021, backed by close to eight million USD of county money. There is no freight terminal, no based cargo carrier and no customs post, so air cargo for the mid-Hudson region, including the nearby IBM mainframe plant in Poughkeepsie, is trucked in over Route 9 and I-84. The gateways used are Stewart International (SWF) roughly 40 km to the west and Newark (EWR) or New York JFK some 120 to 135 km to the south. Federal money keeps reaching the airfield: the FAA awarded 2.1 million USD in 2022 to rebuild the terminal apron, taxiway and taxiway lighting, and the county published a new Airport Master Plan in June 2024.
