## Description

Somon Air, Tajikistan's national carrier, runs the cargo operation at Dushanbe International Airport (IATA: DYU, ICAO: UTDD), which handled 2,394 tonnes of freight and mail in 2025, about eight per cent less than a year earlier. Goods are processed in a cargo terminal of roughly 2,300 square metres, built in 2018 with a 17.5 million USD grant from Japan; regular all-cargo services are not confirmed, so most consignments travel as belly cargo on passenger flights. The airport served around 2.1 million passengers in 2025, of which Somon Air itself carried some 1.09 million. Construction of a new passenger terminal sized for about three million travellers a year began in February 2026, following the 2025 rehabilitation of roughly 400,000 square metres of apron and taxiway and the purchase of 45 ground-handling units. Customs is administered by the Tajik Customs Service, and free economic zones such as Sughd and Dangara are available for processing and bonded storage. Landlocked Tajikistan moves its bulk trade by road corridors through Uzbekistan; for larger air-freight volumes, Tashkent (TAS) some 570 road kilometres away, which opened a new cargo terminal in March 2025, and Almaty (ALA) are the practical alternatives.
