## Description

DQM is the IATA identifier for Duqm International Airport (ICAO: OODQ), the air access point to the Special Economic Zone at Duqm on Oman's Arabian Sea coast. Opened with a temporary building in 2014 and a permanent terminal in 2018, it handled only about 65,000 passengers in 2023, mostly on the shuttle link to Muscat. Its 4-kilometre runway is dimensioned for the Airbus A380, far ahead of present demand. An air cargo building rated at roughly 25,000 tonnes per year is in place, yet no scheduled freighter services or integrators are established here. For now the heavy freight serving the zone's refinery, drydock and petrochemical projects moves through the adjacent deep-water Port of Duqm operated by ASYAD. Customs clearance follows the free-zone rules of SEZAD, with bonded handling tied to the industrial estate. For forwarders, air cargo at Duqm remains a niche, with the maritime route carrying the bulk. Sitting outside the Strait of Hormuz gives Duqm value as an alternative entry to the Gulf.
