## Description

Two and a half years of civil war rewrote Sudan's freight map, and Dongola (DOG/HSDN) on the Nile in Northern State ended up as a road destination rather than an air-cargo one. The region stayed comparatively untouched by the fighting that began in April 2023, and in 2024 the airport was among those — with Kassala and El Obeid — opened for humanitarian relief flights, but it has no cargo terminal, no commercial freighter operation and no documented air-cargo customs facility. Scheduled traffic is limited to Sudanese domestic carriers such as Sudan Airways, Tarco Aviation and Badr Airlines, whose schedules change at short notice for security reasons. Khartoum International (KRT) took its first scheduled commercial flight in more than two years on 1 February 2026 and is initially set up for around four movements a day, though repeated drone attacks have since forced temporary airspace closures, so every booking needs a same-day NOTAM check. Port Sudan (PZU) on the Red Sea remains the country's effective gateway, having absorbed both air and sea imports through the war years. Goods for Dongola move on from there or from Khartoum by desert highway, roughly 500 kilometres north of the capital.
