## Description

Around 700,000 passengers a year currently pass through Dong Hoi (VDH/VVDH) in central Vietnam, most of them travelling to the Phong Nha-Ke Bang cave system rather than on business. A second passenger terminal sized for three million passengers a year, budgeted by the Airports Corporation of Vietnam at more than VND 1,863 billion (roughly USD 72 million), is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter of 2026; the apron has already been enlarged from four to eight aircraft stands. Scheduled services run mainly to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, operated by Vietnam Airlines and VietJet Air. No dedicated cargo terminal, freighter operation or standalone air-cargo customs post is confirmed here, so shipments move only as belly load on passenger aircraft, with tight limits on size and weight. Forwarders needing predictable capacity therefore route via Da Nang (DAD), about 270 road kilometres south on National Highway 1, or via Noi Bai in Hanoi (HAN) some 490 kilometres to the north. For heavy or bulky goods the seaport of Hon La, just north of Dong Hoi, provides the multimodal alternative.
