## Description

From the 1960s until 2014, Doha International Airport (DIA/OTBD) was Qatar's only commercial airport and the original home of Qatar Airways; today it carries no scheduled traffic, all of which moved some five kilometres to Hamad International (DOH), where around 2.59 million tonnes of cargo were handled in 2025. The old field now serves the Qatar Amiri Flight's government and VIP aircraft, the Qatari air force, business-aviation operator Rizon Jet, Gulf Helicopters and the Qatar Aeronautical College, and it reopened briefly for passenger flights during the 2022 FIFA World Cup. In early 2026 Qatar Airways Cargo announced a return of freighters to DIA, described by the carrier as a time-limited technical stop to relieve Hamad; broader reports of a permanent transfer of freighter operations are not confirmed. For shippers and forwarders nothing changes for now: bookings, acceptance and customs clearance run through the DOH cargo terminals, rated at roughly 1.4 million tonnes a year. Alternatives in the Gulf are Dubai (DXB/DWC) and Abu Dhabi (AUH), reachable from Qatar by road through Saudi Arabia. DIA itself offers no public cargo handling and no scheduled services.
