## Description

Once served by Ukraine International, Wizz Air and LOT, Dnipro Airport (IATA: DNK, ICAO: UKDD) on the south-eastern edge of one of Ukraine's largest cities has stood idle since Ukrainian airspace closed on 24 February 2022, and a Russian strike destroyed much of its infrastructure in April 2022. No air cargo is handled and there is no air-side customs clearance. Freight for the Dnipro industrial and metallurgical region instead moves by road feeder to EU airports, chiefly Rzeszów (RZE) in Poland, plus Warsaw (WAW) and Kraków (KRK), with Chisinau (KIV) serving southern Ukraine, and then crosses the border by truck. In March 2026 the government set up a working group to plan a phased reopening, but no date has been confirmed and the industry estimates roughly 45 to 50 days of lead time between a safety clearance and the first flights. Lviv in the west is seen as the first candidate while the Kyiv-area airports are expected last because of continued shelling; war-damaged Dnipro, close to the front, is not among the sites named for early resumption. For forwarders this means Ukraine traffic stays a road-and-rail exercise with the air freight leg starting outside the country.
