## Description

Rated for four million passengers a year, Djerba-Zarzis is one of Tunisia's busiest airports and the main air gateway to the resort island of Djerba. Located at Mellita, about nine kilometres west of Houmt Souk, it serves Tunisair, Nouvelair, TUI fly, Brussels Airlines, Edelweiss and Saudia on mostly European leisure routes. Unusually for a holiday airport, it operates a cargo terminal with a bonded warehouse, transit zone, refrigerated and deep-freeze storage and an express/courier centre, and counts as Tunisia's second official freight airport after Tunis-Carthage. ASL Airlines France is among the carriers serving the island. Cargo volumes nonetheless stay modest and tourism-led, so larger consignments are usually consolidated through Tunis-Carthage (TUN). A Roman-era causeway links Djerba to the mainland, easing truck feeder traffic.
