## Description

A single passenger terminal, no cargo shed and no freighter apron: that is the infrastructure behind Dimapur Airport (DMU/VEMR), the only airport in the Indian state of Nagaland, which still handled 1,309 tonnes of air cargo in the financial year April 2025 to March 2026, up 13.2 per cent year on year. All of it moves as belly cargo through the Airports Authority of India passenger terminal, with Air India and IndiGo each committing roughly 2,000 kg of daily uplift. Typical consignments are perishables — pineapple, ginger and the well-known Naga king chilli. Scheduled services run to Kolkata, Guwahati and Delhi, while larger or international shipments are consolidated at Kolkata (CCU), with Guwahati (GAU) as the nearer alternative. Dimapur is also Nagaland's only railhead, which makes rail and NH-29 road feeder movements toward Kohima straightforward. Expansion is under way: 18.8 acres were handed to AAI on 8 May 2026 for phase one, and the full integrated terminal with additional parking bays and aerobridges is expected to start from 2029.
