## Description

Diavik Airport (IATA DVK) is the private airstrip of the Diavik diamond mine on an island in Lac de Gras, Northwest Territories, roughly 300 km north-east of Yellowknife and without year-round road access. It is not a public airport: it serves the mine by charter alone, freight moves as part of those supply flights, and there is no scheduled service or public cargo access. Rio Tinto ended production in March 2026 and the site has been in closure and remediation since, a process expected to run to about 2029. Heavy loads traditionally moved on the Tibbitt to Contwoyto winter road, which will not open for the 2027 season; Diavik expects to use it again in 2028. The nearest scheduled and cargo airport is Yellowknife (YZF), with Edmonton (YEG) as the southern connection.
