## Description

Eleven years without a landing came to an end in May 2026, when a Pakistan Army Aviation Corps proving flight touched down at Dera Ismail Khan Airport (DSK). Closed since 2015, the field on the west bank of the Indus in southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was rehabilitated by the Pakistan Airports Authority, which commissioned new DVOR/DME navigation equipment as part of the work. Operations are planned with ATR-family turboprops, with Pakistan International Airlines expected to move first and private carriers to follow if demand supports it. No cargo terminal, customs post or scheduled freighter service forms part of that plan, and a stable commercial schedule is not confirmed at this stage. Regional goods therefore still travel by road to Islamabad (ISB) and Rawalpindi, the nearest point with air cargo handling and customs clearance, with Peshawar (PEW) as the northern alternative. For freight forwarders, DSK is a reopened passenger field rather than a freight point.
