## Description

At Dera Ghazi Khan (DEA/OPDG), road still does what aircraft do not: carry the freight. Set in western Punjab where four provinces meet, about 15 kilometres from the city centre, the field is run by the Pakistan Airports Authority and served by Pakistan International Airlines on domestic routes to Karachi and Islamabad, with light and seasonal traffic. No scheduled international service has returned since the early 2010s and there is no dedicated cargo terminal. A runway extension started in 2024 to accommodate larger narrow-bodies such as the Airbus A320 was scheduled for completion by December 2026, though no meaningful freight handling has been announced alongside it. Cotton, dates and other regional produce therefore continue to travel overland to the cargo facilities and customs stations at Multan, roughly 100 kilometres away, and at Lahore. For forwarders, DEA is a passenger feeder rather than a freight point.
