First impressions of Salvador are carnival and tropical coastline, yet Deputado Luís Eduardo Magalhães International Airport is also the air-freight gateway for the northeastern state of Bahia. Operated since 2018 by VINCI Airports, which carried out a full modernisation, the airport runs a cargo terminal around the clock. Inland lies the Camaçari industrial complex, one of Latin America's largest petrochemical sites, with chemical, plastics and vehicle production whose higher-value and time-critical goods favour the air route.
