## Description

Named after independence general Santiago Mariño, PMV is the main airport of Isla Margarita, Venezuela's Caribbean holiday island near Porlamar. The island carries Puerto Libre status – a duty-free regime built around tourism and discounted retail goods. Two parallel runways of roughly 3,200 and 3,000 metres let the airport handle large charter and scheduled jets. Cargo, however, stays modest: mostly imported consumer goods and perishables for the island, moving as belly freight on passenger services. Most island supply in fact arrives by sea, on ferries from Puerto La Cruz and Cumaná. PMV is not a standalone freight node; schedulable airfreight capacity concentrates at mainland Caracas-Maiquetía (CCS). Exporters to the island typically combine airfreight to Caracas with onward sea or air transport to Margarita. The duty-free regime remains the location's defining logistics feature.
