## Description

Some 250 tonnes of Shahi litchi left Darbhanga Airport (IATA: DBR) by air in the 2025 season – a 108% jump over the previous year and the clearest sign that this north Bihar airfield is building a freight profile. Commercial flights only began in November 2020 under India's UDAN regional connectivity scheme, with SpiceJet and IndiGo linking DBR to Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata. Cargo currently moves as belly freight through the AAI passenger terminal; there is no dedicated cargo terminal yet, though the Bihar government has approved land for a cargo and logistics hub next to the airfield. Target commodities are the region's perishables: litchi, makhana (fox nuts) and handloom goods. For consolidated or international shipments, forwarders still route via Kolkata (CCU) or Delhi (DEL), and capacity during the May–June litchi season should be booked early.
