## Description

In use since 1952 — first by an air-defence fighter regiment until 1994, today by an independent helicopter squadron of the 14th Missile Division — Danilovo is a military airfield some 11 kilometres east of Yoshkar-Ola in Russia's Mari El Republic, not a freight facility. There is no cargo terminal, no ground handling for commercial consignments and no customs post; military transport movements are not a bookable air freight service. The separate civil airport at Yoshkar-Ola (JOK/UWKJ) suspended flight operations at the end of September 2023 for runway reconstruction, and no confirmed reopening date is available. Commercial air freight for Mari El therefore moves via Kazan (KZN) roughly 150 kilometres to the south, or via Nizhny Novgorod (GOJ), with onward trucking. Shippers from Switzerland and the EU must also check the airspace closures and goods restrictions in force on Russia traffic since 2022, which sharply limit the air option. For forwarders, Danilovo is a map reference rather than a handling point.
