## Description

Dandong Langtou Airport (DDG/ZYDD) reopened to commercial traffic on 26 April 2026 after an eleven-month closure that lengthened its runway to 2,600 metres. China Southern Airlines flew the first service to Shanghai Pudong, Shenzhen followed the same evening and Air China restored the Beijing route at the start of May; the longer runway now takes fully loaded Boeing 737-800s and Airbus A320neos, and stated capacity rose to around two million passengers a year. On the freight side the station stays modest: the airport reports a cargo centre of roughly 800 square metres with daily capacity in the order of 20 tonnes, but no freighters operate and shipments travel as belly cargo on domestic flights. The real goods traffic of this border city runs on the ground — most China–North Korea trade crosses the Yalu bridge to Sinŭiju or passes through Dandong's seaport, under strict customs and sanctions scrutiny. Forwarders with international air freight therefore work through Shenyang Taoxian (SHE), about 220 road kilometres to the north-west, or Dalian Zhoushuizi (DLC) to the south. For most consignments, Dandong is a road and sea gateway with an airport attached, not the other way round.
