## Description

Around 16 million passengers used Dallas Love Field (IATA: DAL, ICAO: KDAL) in 2025, roughly 98 percent of them on Southwest Airlines, the carrier headquartered on the field that launched low-cost flying from this apron in 1971. Named after army pilot Moss Lee Love, who died in a 1913 crash, the airport spent decades throttled by the Wright Amendment until its 2014 repeal opened nationwide nonstops. For freight, DAL is strictly a belly-cargo station: shipments move in the holds of Southwest Cargo passenger flights, and there are no freighter operations and no dedicated cargo terminal. Volume consignments, bulk customs clearance and intercontinental airfreight route instead through Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) some 30 kilometres west and through Fort Worth Alliance (AFW), the metroplex freighter airport to the north. Barely ten kilometres from downtown Dallas, Love Field remains useful for couriers and hand-carry consignments. In 2025 the city council extended Southwest's lease on 18 of the 20 gates to September 2040, while Alaska Airlines withdrew, leaving Delta Air Lines as the only other operator.
