## Description

Cargo and mail at Dali Fengyi Airport (DLU/ZPDL) in western Yunnan passed 10,000 tonnes for the first time in 2024, up roughly 48 percent year on year. The volume rides on a dense domestic network to Kunming, Chengdu, Chongqing and other Chinese cities: shipments travel as belly cargo in passenger aircraft plus overnight capacity, and there are no dedicated freighter operations or international cargo services. Management pursues a stated 'cargo and passengers in balance' strategy and wants the field, sitting at about 2,100 metres, to become the express logistics centre for north-western Yunnan. A third expansion phase is due to open in 2027, lifting capacity to 13,650 tonnes of cargo and mail, 3.9 million passengers and some 36,000 aircraft movements a year. Demand so far comes from tourism to the old town, the Three Pagodas and Erhai Lake, and from regional express traffic. International consignments and larger volumes still route through Kunming Changshui (KMG), Yunnan's freight gateway about 300 road kilometres east, with Lijiang Sanyi (LJG) as a smaller alternative to the north. Incidentally, the Chinese word for marble — 'Dali stone' — comes from this city.
